Lotus After Dark was born from my experience filming The White Lotus aboard The Ritz-Carlton Yacht Collection in the Bay of Cannes.

The painting captures a very particular vision of the French Riviera at night: the quietness of being at sea, surrounded by darkness, while in the distance the lights of Cannes reveal a city still alive and in motion. From the yacht, this contrast felt especially powerful — the calm and immensity of the Mediterranean on one side, and the vibrant energy of Cannes glowing on the horizon on the other.

Being part of the filming of the American series The White Lotus made this moment even more unique. The luxurious atmosphere aboard the yacht, the night, the sea, the lights and my own emotions on set gradually became the inspiration for this work. Rather than simply depicting a scene, I wanted to translate the feeling of being there — suspended between reality and fiction, darkness and light, silence and movement.

The painting is deliberately dominated by a dark palette of black, white and grey, punctuated by touches of beige, red and blue. The blue, in particular, recalls the illuminated swimming pool aboard the yacht, emerging almost unexpectedly from the darkness. Light appears in fragments throughout the composition, echoing the distant glow of Cannes and creating a dialogue between shadow and illumination.

Created with acrylic, oil pastel and touches of spray paint, Lotus After Dark is both a memory of a night at sea and my personal interpretation of an extraordinary moment on the French Riviera.
